What is the Discipleship Year?
It’s an exciting year of discovery and adventure for 18–24 year olds.
- Develop key leadership skills.
- Deepen your knowledge and experience of God.
- Explore the calling and purpose that God has for your life.
- Discover, exercise and nurture your spiritual gifts and passions.
- Grow through serving in a local church.
- Experience the adventure of overseas mission.
The purpose of the Discipleship Year is to equip, encourage and empower you with solid foundations for life as a follower of Jesus. The focus is on three strategic areas:
The good news of Jesus begins with making disciples, who make disciples. Our prayer is that your passion for making disciples will increase as you press into the presence of God and are empowered by his Spirit for the mission of advancing the kingdom of God.
Growing Through Community
Together with your co-interns, you will engage with solid and relevant biblical teaching, explore and develop your spiritual gifts, and use them to serve and lead within the local church. You can also expect healthy doses of fun, inspiration, and some practical, ‘hands-on’ Kingdom experience.
The course offers an optional 14-day overseas mission trip organised in partnership with Tearfund. On mission, you will step out of your comfort zone doing things you may not necessarily do in the UK. It’s an exciting opportunity to experience and appreciate another culture and learn from other Christians in a developing country.
The Nitty Gritty
Core New Wine teaching will include modules on Jesus, the Bible, the kingdom of God, mission and evangelism, leadership and character development.
Each training centre will invest eight hours per week in equipping you through teaching, mentoring and coaching, and providing contextual input using local church leaders and practitioners.
We ask that you, in turn, commit to serving in a local church as an intern for 12 hours per week, where you will get to exercise your growing leadership in either kids’ work, youth work, serving the poor, media, family ministries, evangelism or worship.
Typically you will find your own accommodation and work part-time to cover living expenses. The fee for the year is £980*, which covers:
All the teaching, coaching and training at the centre.
Attendance at the national New Wine Discipleship Year residential weekend away.
Attendance at New Wine’s Retreat to Advance conference.
*The cost including the overseas mission trip with Tearfund in Africa is approximately £2680 (depending upon flight costs at time of booking).
